Uggie at the Academy Awards-a proud moment for canines!

Mon, 02/27/2012 - 2:35PM by Phoebe Rose 0 Comments -

Uggie and his human/manager, Omar

Phoebe Rose sat home in her Oscars outfit-no phone call from Uggie.  However, not a pug to hold a grudge, she was genuinely happy that The Artist won as best picture and the handsome Uggi had the opportunity to appear on stage with his co-stars.

This is a truly proud moment for canines-when a canine actor is acknowledged by his human peers!

Phoebe Rose eagerly scanned the Academy Awards photos of Uggie on PetSugar-and had to "paws" at this cozy twosome.

Apparently, this was taken at the Petco "Unleashed" event held on Saturday....now WHO is the vixen with Uggie?

Why does he have his paw on her?  Another fame seeking starlet, perhaps?  Does anyone know????

Countdown until the Oscars-will Uggie make appearance?

Sat, 02/25/2012 - 11:50PM by Phoebe Rose 0 Comments -

Less than 24 hours until the most important day in an actor's career-the Academy Awards....and no less important for a canine actor.

Uggi, the canine star of The Artist (nominated for Best Picture) remains silent on the topic of his appearance at the Oscars tomorrow night.

There was a rumor that he would be sharing the stage with host, Billy Crystal-another rumor was that Uggie is suffering from health problems (this was confirmed by a reliable source) and that a mysterious shaking has affected his ability to perform.

Uggie's brother (and also his understudy) was in attendance backstage at the Golden Collar awards.  Phoebe Rose, covered the event and noted the good natured rivalry between the two pups.  Will Uggie's brother "stand in" for Uggie at the Oscars?

Phoebe Rose and Uggie formed a very quick and special bond that night (at least, Phoebe thought so or maybe that goodbye sniffing was just a Hollywood thing) and she was hopeful that Uggie might request her presence as his date for the Oscars.

Phoebe is dressed (platinum wig in place) and is ready.....Will Uggie make an appearance at the Oscars?...Will Phoebe Rose be sitting alone with a broken heart on Sunday night?

Golden Globes Gifting Suites

Sat, 02/25/2012 - 11:24PM by Phoebe Rose 0 Comments -

Phoebe Rose attended the GBK Gift Lounge at L'Ermitage (a pet friendly luxury hotel) in Beverly Hills.  This rooftop lounge event attracted Golden Globe Nominees including: Alexander Payne, Callie Thorne, Damian Lewis, Romola Garai and Beau Willimon. Other guests spotted were Joe Mantegna, Jeremy Irons, Mickey Rourke, Glynn Turman, Laura Prepon, Lauren Bowles, Samantha Harris and Ali Fediotowsky.

Blues singer, Billie Holliday had it right when she crooned, "Them that's got shall get" as the Hollywood heavyweights were showered with clothing, jewelry, trips (All presenters and nominees received Air Pacific round trip for two to Fiji including accommodations) in exchange for posing for product endorsement.

Actor, Jeremy Irons ( HBO's The Borgias) declined to have a photo taken with Phoebe, saying "I'm not a pet person, I'm a farmer. I have sheep, pigs, cows." He followed up this statement with a few more words which were unintelligable due to his heavy English accent.  Mr. Irons was however, happy to oblige photographers and pose with products like Eos natural, organic lip balm.

Phoebe Rose was eager to strike a pose in exchange for loot but had no offers other than a Tweezerman consult ("snip don't pluck those chin whiskers"), a delicious sampling of Centerville Pie Company's signature chicken pie and a dog biscuit courtesy of the L'Ermitage doorman upon exiting the premises.

Undaunted, the irrepressible Miss Rose is looking forward to checking out gifting suites for the upcoming Academy Awards.

Phoebe Rose, the pugnacious Hollywood hound, attended the Grammy Foundation's One Night Only and what a night it was for Miss Rose.  Red Carpet luminaries, Brett Michaels and the evening's host, Sharon Osbourne graciously shared the spotlight with Hollywood Today's roving reporter.

The enterprising, Mr. Michaels has recently partnered with PetSmart to introduce a line of canine wear appropriately branded, Pets Rock.  Michaels originally had the idea for a pet toy and accessory line-but the savvy honchos at PetSmart suggested expanding to rock and roll canine couture-to bring out "the cool and fun side" (says Brett) of your furry friend.
Sharon Osbourne (The Talk) is the Mistress of Reinvention-business women, television host, promoter, author and a ground breaking entrepeneur-from the grandaddy rock festival Ozzfest to the "original" reality show, The Osbournes.  She is also "mom" to 12 pups and employs a pet nanny.  A staunch supporter of shelter animals, her most recent family addition is a pint sized Yorkie via a $10,000 auction bid with the proceeds going to the HollyRod foundation for Autism.

Whew! What a chaotic month for this canine correspondent...Miss Rose almost neglected to post her coverage of the Grammy award parties and gifting suites.
The Lifetime Merit Awards given by the Recording Academy, was an event she couldn't overlook.  Check out the highlights.

"Well said!" says Phoebe Rose, proud of being a large and lovely lap dog.

Pug in rabbit earsPhoebe Rose, pugnacious pug with a predilection for sniffing out a story-went behind the scenes (and under the chairs) at the Jazz Festival Press Conference today at the Playboy Mansion, hosted by perennial host, comedian, Bill Cosby.  The Coz (wearing a retro "Hello Friend" sweatshirt) did a running gag commentary on the artist line-up, entertaining the invitation only guests and media who enjoyed refreshments, live music by the LA City Jazz band and self guided tours of the mansion's grounds, game room and zoo.

Hef was indisposed ("under the weather") and the only bunny ears visible belonged to Miss Rose-posing as a canine Playmate.   Cosby (touting his prowess with a cow bell and wawa pedal), cautioned the VIP guests, "Don't send your assistant to see these bands!"

Grammy Awards Official Gifting Suite

How do celebrities find time in their hectic schedules to always appear so flawlessly groomed and remain such tireless trend setters?

An Inside look at The Official Grammy gifting suite at the Staples Center in Los Angeles (prior to the Awards) is where Grammy nominees, music industry honchos and Hollywood heavyweights and hotties stop by to browse and (graciously) accept exclusive and luxury items from the high end world of food, fashion, entertainment and virtually any product that carefully screened participating vendors hope to parlay into celebrity promotion/endorsement.

Phoebe Rose, a celebrity Pug with a purpose and Red Carpet blogger, noted that celebrities (just like us) love free stuff-only their free stuff is a heck of a lot better!

Check out what when on when Miss Rose high-tailed it over to the VIP tent.

Golden Collar Awards

Sat, 02/25/2012 - 8:21PM by Phoebe Rose 0 Comments -

Corral a bunch of A-list actors backstage before a major award show and you'd be asking for trouble- unless the actors have four legs and fur and were nominees for this year's inaugural Golden Collar Awards- AKA "The Canine Oscars".

The fido thespians quietly gathered in a suite behind the scenes at the sedately elegant Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel with their respective trainers and owner/family members-sans entourage and quaker- like in their decorum.

No egos, no tantrums and no demands.  Phoebe Rose, celebrity pug and Hollywood Today's Official Roving Rover Reporter, mingled and posed with the low-key star pooches and even picked up a few acting tips.
Phoebe joins Uggi for acting lesson
Spotted, woofing it up backstage were Cairn Terrier, Dash-Uggi's understudy (a bit of friendly rivalry here),Doberman, Cash (handsome in his tux)-Blackie's respresentative , FEMA Search Dog of the Year-golden retreiver, Hunter, Preston Casanova, star of CBS Greatest American Dog looking fabulous "I spent 3 days getting Preston ready for event," said owner, Laura (who personally perfects the multi-talented Pomeranian's signature cut), Nugget, the Bud Light Mascot sitting quietly and soberly.

Noticeably absent from the glittering assembly was Doberman, Blackie (star of Hugo), allegedly on his way to Japan -and sending his representative Cash to stand in for him.  The media buzz about Blackie has been that his "acting"  chops were enhanced digitally-emphatically denied by Director Martin Scorcese and whispered to be a smear campaign by the competition (Nominee Uggie of the Artist's, Harvey Weinstein) initially blacklisting his scene stealing pawformance from being nominated.

And the winners were:

Best Dog in a Reality Television Series-a tie-Giggy (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) and Hercules-(Pit Boss)

Fashion Week in Los Angeles

Lauren Elaine models & moi

The fashions were beautiful at Lauren Elaine, but I thought the rose petals on the floor were food (a little disappointing).

I usually have a pretty good body image- but after seeing all the super thin models (and guests) at LA Fashion Week, I am feeling that my aspiring career as a large and lovely plus size model, might have problems.

But, aside from that, its been a fantastic series of events-most of the shows are free and attract a fun, creative crowd.  The local designers (some well known and others beginning their careers) are innovative, fun, cool, glamorous, edgy-everything that makes this city unique.  The photographers were there to capture the fashion forward moments (I just happen to be in all of these photos).

Green Fur for St. Patrick's Day?

Sat, 03/12/2011 - 7:51AM by Phoebe Rose 0 Comments -

doggie fur dye

My friend Muchado has his fur dyed for all occasions.  Of course, for St. Patrick's day, he will be proudly sporting a green Mohawk and goatee.

His Mom gave us the 411 about how to safely color your furry baby.  She uses a non-toxic hair color like "Manic Panic"  (available at beauty supply stores).  There are special doggie dyes (but usually more expensive) or Kool Aid is also popular.  Carefully avoiding the eye area, she applies to dry fur and lets dry for an hour (a very active canine might not be too cooperative).  The color lasts for a few weeks -and gradually fades away after a few baths.  For all over color-wet fur is recommended.

Doggies with dark fur (like moi) need a 2 step process: first color the fur white-let dry-then apply color of choice.  You can color to highlight tails, paws, ears or all over color.

Should Dogs Wear Sunglasses?

Wed, 03/09/2011 - 4:44PM by Phoebe Rose 0 Comments -

Doggie sunglasses

I did a little on-line research and it seems that "Companies such as Doggles, seeFIDO, and Dog-Goes, acknowledge the fact that many pet owners value all aspects of their dogs’ well-being, including their eyesight. This is why they have developed dog sunglasses that come in many different sizes, shapes, and designs to accommodate the many different dog breeds out there. They stem not from fashion or leisure roots, but from the very real fact that the eyes of dogs need to be protected from harmful rays of the light spectrum, as well as from irritants like dust, sand, and wind."

Well, makes sense to me but of course there is never a simple yes or no answer.

"Some veterinarians are skeptical about the necessity of sunglasses for dogs while others endorse the idea wholeheartedly."
Well, since this is my style blog, I will make the executive decision.  I think as far as style is concerned, the answer is "Yes, dogs should wear sunglasses."
Love & Licks,
Phoebe R.
